This famille-rose floral bowl from the Yongzheng period epitomizes the peak of Qing imperial porcelain craftsmanship. The painting technique draws directly from court academy traditions, employing a masterful blend of “boneless” (mogu) and outline-and-fill methods. Court artisans used fine weasel-hair brushes dipped in enamel pigment to outline floral veins, then layered washes with soft goat-hair brushes, achieving more than five layers of color gradation per petal. All painting was executed during the critical semi-dry glaze stage, allowing pigment to penetrate slightly beneath the glaze without cracking—branches and leaves bear spontaneous, natural strokes akin to “earthworm trace” patterns.

The glaze materials are exceptionally refined: carmine pink derives its hue from gold-based compounds, pale green from copper oxide, and iron red includes finely ground agate. After multiple firings, these minerals form a gentle luster with a unique translucence. The floral composition subtly aligns with the philosophical order of the “Four Seasons”—main blossoms in full bloom face forward, accompanied by buds and half-open flowers; leaves are painted front and back with tonal variation, reflecting the court's realistic and observational artistic spirit.

The bowl’s exterior is coated in a soft pink glaze, likened to early peach blossoms or gauzy spring haze, exuding understated elegance. This delicate “rouge water” glaze is achieved by expertly regulating kiln atmosphere to control iron crystal formation within the transparent overglaze, requiring dozens of firing cycles. The subtle “orange peel” texture on the surface, caused by the glaze’s molten movement, showcases the precision of kiln mastery.

The base bears a six-character “Da Qing Yongzheng Nian Zhi” mark in double-ring regular script, affirming its imperial origin.

Fewer than one hundred examples of this form are known to survive. The thin-walled porcelain and refined trimming techniques used have long been lost to time. The mineral pigment formulas vanished amid warfare and dynastic decline, making modern replicas unable to replicate the original’s translucency and elegance. This bowl embodies a confluence of aesthetic excellence, historical testimony, and investment-grade rarity, standing as a quintessential icon of Eastern Rococo artistry.
