This famille-rose "Ears of Wheat" jar from the Yongzheng period exemplifies the zenith of imperial porcelain craftsmanship, merging courtly artistry with auspicious agrarian symbolism. The body is meticulously potted from premium kaolin clay sourced from Jingdezhen, refined through twelve successive pulp-cleansing stages. The resulting porcelain is as thin as parchment, translucent against light, and exudes a jade-like sheen under its pure white glaze — the ideal canvas for famille-rose enamels.

The decoration is executed using a unique innovation of the time: the "boneless layered shading" method. Finely brushed ink outlines each ear of wheat with hair-thin precision, followed by layer upon layer of enamel washes using soft-tipped brushes. Ochre hues transition gradually into golden tones, while the wheat leaves, in vibrant green, appear dew-laden and supple. Every grain of wheat is rendered using the diǎn dù (stippling and piling) technique, with as many as seven layers of enamel applied to achieve a tactile, lustrous relief. Firing at 780°C fuses the enamels to a glassy brilliance.

The shoulders are subtly incised with “waves and cliff” patterns that echo the dynamic brushwork of the overglaze painting. The recessed base bears a six-character reign mark — Da Qing Yongzheng Nian Zhi — in underglaze blue, enclosed within double circles and written in powerful, iron-wire-style regular script.

This jar embodies the Yongzheng Emperor’s reverence for agrarian virtue, expressed through a courtly artistic lens. The wheat motif conveys the auspicious wish for "peace and abundance year after year." As a model piece from the transitional era of famille-rose innovation between the Kangxi and Qianlong reigns, it holds rare historical and aesthetic significance. Highly sought after by elite collectors, it is a paragon of 18th-century Chinese porcelain artistry.
